The characteristic lesion of tuberculosis is the caseating granuloma. Note the two large, white, well defined granulomas occupying about 80% of this specimen. Note that they have a well defined brown border and a white, cheesy center.

This is a specimen of tuberculosis of the liver. Shown here are several gross sections of the liver demonstrating multiple granulomas throughout the parenchyma . Such disseminated disease is typically the result of hematogenous spread of secondary tuberculosis.
